As Warren & Lisa’s birthday’s are a few days apart, we decided to celebrate with a weekend away to the beautiful town on Franschhoek. This took place over the weekend 31 August – 2 September.
We discovered the most amazing cottage on Airbnb, located on the La Petite Provence Estate. This 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom cottage included a fireplace & spacious kitchen / lounge area with garage. The hosts Craig & Erica were lovely to liaise with to arrange the accommodation. During the course of the weekend they even checked up to see if we were happy & all was in order.
We arrived on Friday and had a relaxing evening with braai & red wine. Early Saturday morning the boys went for a mountain bike ride, on their return we decided to head into town for breakfast.
Saturday was a gorgeous summer’s day in Franschhoek – we stopped to explore the market with various arts & crafts, good food and gin/champagne bar.
Thereafter, we found Cafe de Arts……a small restaurant tucked away down a small path off the main road – we had a delicious bubbly breakfast to celebrate the birthdays & service was excellent.
The rest of the day consisted of navigating from wine farm to wine farm for tastings. First stop, Haute Cabriere with the most amazing views & wines (we always enjoy their wines & this is probably our 5th or 6th time visiting). This is definitely a must when in Franschhoek!
We took a drive up the Franschhoek Pass, an awesome experience with amazing scenery & views.
Next stop, Leopard’s Leap. This would be a first for us, but we were pleasantly surprised at the venue, wines & amazing service. We all loved the Chardonnay Pinot Noir & bought a box to enjoy at home during the summer months with a good braai.
Sunday morning was much the same, boys headed out to Boschendal for a ride while the ladies had a late morning. That was the perfect idea as the rain had arrived. On the way home we decided to stop at the beautiful Elgin Railway Market. WOW! Its definitely a place to visit, even if you drive up just for the day.
Its amazing food, wine and arts and crafts stalls are nothing but spectacular. We enjoyed a tasty lunch and then headed home.
A fantastic relaxing weekend is sometimes all you need to recharge the batteries, this was one of those and definitely one for the books. See you soon!
