This past weekend, we decided to take a much needed break to the seaside town of Saldanha. As we are still in the heart of the Cape winter, we opted to stay in more comfortable, protected accommodations and booked at the Protea Hotel Saldanha Bay. With amazing seaside views and a relaxed atmosphere, it was the perfect location for our weekend away. What better way to spend a Friday night on the coast than in the company of friends, relaxing and chatting over a glass of wine?
With an easy Friday evening under the belt, we started Saturday morning off with an early cycle and breakfast at the Cup of Cake café. The Cup of Cake Café is a cozy restaurant located close to the hotel, serving scrumptious breakfast treats and decadent cakes.
The rest of the day was spent enjoying the town scenery, watching the Stormers game and enjoying dinner at the Weskus mall.
Because of the view our rooms afforded us, we woke up early on Sunday morning to catch the sunrise. We were lost for words; the camera does not do justice…
After checking out of the hotel, we headed to Darling for breakfast.
While the girls explored the town, the guys took on Wolwefontein MTB trail. The trail forms part of the Darling MTB race route and was a real challenge. The view from the top certainly made all the climbing worthwhile.
The girls’ morning drive through the town took them into Darling Sweet, where they could taste & buy a range of unique hand crafted toffees in interesting local flavours. Enter at your own risk – the girls left the shop with much more than they had expected to buy.
Following the ride, we joined the girls at the Marmalade Cat for breakfast, sharing the morning’s adventures. Next stop… Evita Se Perron.
Evita se Perron is the cabaret theatre and restaurant established by Pieter-Dirk Uys in 1996. It is the home of Tannie Evita Bezuidenhout, the most famous woman in South African comedy and an important part of our country’s history. Here, you can meet Tannie Evita, take in a show, and share in stories about the many of South Africa’s most loved and hated residents – https://evita.co.za/darling/
We had a look through the amazing history and the endless pictures, stories and letters dating back to Pre-1994. If you’re in the area, this is one not to be missed!
If you have been following our travel blogs (Link to previous), you would have observed our love for food. Because of that, we had to try the food at Darling Brew. It just so happens that they are also the producer of one of the best Craft Beers in the country… another love of ours. Coincidently, it was lunch time by the time we had bid farewell to Tannie Evita, and so we headed straight to the brewery.

After a weekend of relaxation, mesmerizing sunrises and sunsets, mouthwatering food and great conversation, we headed head back home. No doubt we will be visiting the West Coast again.
Till our next adventure…
