Addo Elephant Park

Wow! Wow! Wow!

There are not many words that can describe the Addo experience.  All I can say is that its something everyone has to do at least once in their life.

Being avid Motor rally supporters, we travelled up to PE to spectate the VW PE rally. Being in the area and none of the 4 of us ever visited ADDO, we decided to take some extra leave and spend one day and night in the park.

The entire park is tarred, so access to the various areas are easy and can be accessed with a normal car. There is something to see around every corner. We managed to experience some fantastic encounters with the mighty African Elephant and even managed to see two of the 11 Lions in the park. Thats only two of the numerous animals spread all over the park.

We decided to stay in the park to get the complete experience. We opted for the accommodation at the Addo rest camp. The chalets are raised wooden structures, each with its own braai facility and very secluded. If you listen carefully, you can here the animals in the park. Dont worry, the entire rest camp is surrounded by a high fence, so you are very safe.

They have a curio shop and fantastic restaurant on site, both of which are surprisingly not expensive, but the quality of food was above average.

A short walk from the restaurant is the Hide and the perfect spot to observe the animals in their natural habitat. At night this is lit up.

All in all a fantastic experience. To be honest we spend all of our time driving the numerous loops of roads and enjoyed every second! Cannot wait to go back!
